Booking a Class

I'm happy to come to your school, university, library, business, church, or community event to provide a pysanky workshop.  A brief history of pysanky will follow a hands on workshop where attendees will get to make their own pysanka.  All materials (including prepared eggs) are supplied with the exception of gloves for each participant (nitrile are best) and at least two rolls of paper towels.  Organizers should be aware that each participant will be using a lit candle.  If you are interested in booking a class, please fill out the Contact form.

  • Children's Class - Ages 8 and up - no more than 14 children per class / Class is 1.5 to 2 hours in length.  Cannot be less than 1.5 hours.
    • Pricing for Children's Class - 10.00 per child plus mileage calculated at .38 a mile
  • Pysanky Workshop - Ages 14 and up - no more than 16 people per class / Class is 2-3 hours in length.  Cannot be less than 2 hours.

Preferences

Since we will be using lit candles, it is preferred to have plenty of table space for each participant.  A room with a sink is preferred, but not necessary.  They dyes I use are robust.  They will stain tables and carpets.  Every precaution will be taken to ensure that dye drips do not happen, but if a stain occurs, usually 409 cleaner can get it off of hard surfaces.

I encourage my classes to wear gloves.  The dyes are harmful if you are exposed to them for a long time (I've never had an issue, but I like to play it safe).  Also, the oils on your hands can cause issues with your eggs accepting the dye.  For a cleaner finish, I recommend gloves.  Organizers should provide gloves for each participant (nitrile are usually best, as some people are allergic to latex).  Organizers should also provide at least two rolls of paper towels.

A note:
Pysanky classes are not my day job.  If you are interested in having a class, we will have to work together to find a suitable time.  It is not unusual to have to book several months in advance.
